EN Scientific and technical seminar 2026.03.18
The Department of Engineering Geodesy and Measurement Systems at the Warsaw University of Technology invites you to a scientific and technical seminar:
Geomonitoring in the investment process – design, construction, operation
Location: Warsaw University of Technology, pl. Politechniki 1, 00-661 Warsaw, Main Building, room 315, 3rd floor
Date: March 18, 2026, starting at 9:00 a.m.
Geomonitoring is an integral part of the modern investment process. It ensures safety, minimizes the risk of failure, and allows for informed risk management at every stage of the investment. Its proper implementation requires the cooperation of specialists in the fields of geodesy, geotechnics, and construction. The seminar aims to familiarize participants with geomonitoring issues and facilitate the exchange of experiences and information between participants in the investment process and specialists in related fields. The topics covered in the seminar are addressed not only to scientists, but also to contractors and investors, as well as administration employees involved in the geodetic support of investments. In addition to guests from Poland, representatives of foreign centers will also participate in the seminar. The seminar will address issues related to the three key stages of geomonitoring associated with the design, construction, and operation of a facility, which differ in the scope of research and ongoing analysis required.
During the construction phase, geomonitoring serves a control and early warning function. Measurements include observations of horizontal and vertical displacements, vibrations, and deformations of structural elements. During the service life of the structure, geomonitoring is long-term and serves to assess its durability and functioning in changing environmental conditions. At this stage, secondary settlement processes, the impact of traffic vibrations, changes in groundwater levels, the impact of weather conditions, and displacements and deformations resulting from operational loads are monitored.
Registration for the seminar will open soon.
Workshops
In addition, this year's seminar will be accompanied by geomonitoring workshops held at Center for Geospatial and Satellite Analysis Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography, Warsaw University of Technology in Józefosław (on March 19, 2026, Thursday), covering automatic geodetic monitoring, inclinometer measurements, precise hydrostatic levelling, the use of DEFOS fibre optic sensors in geomonitoring, and geotechnical monitoring.
